Section 7 - MARKETING CAMPAIGN - Safe2Say Something

Student Goal:

Across the globe, the Internet is used for a variety of purposes; entertainment, information, communication​, and for this assignment to raise awareness for a very important initiative - Safe2Say Something Program. This assignment will involve students forming groups and work together to develop a marketing campaign to raise awareness about a variety of important Social Issues this program can help you with and what you can do to help.

Student Objective:

After completion of the lecture and the class exercises, the students will develop a series of video and audio public service announcements (PSA) social media posts, and printed posters that highlight resources available for those that need or want to help themselves or others. This project will help students use the power of advertising to help raise awareness of an important topic or cause.

Lesson/Project Overview Here:

Students will learn the importance of collaborating on a project to achieve the common goal to create a marketing campaign for a client, in this case, the Safe2Say Something Program. Students will create video and audio PSA's, social media posts for Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook as well as a poster to be hung in schools, community centers, and other locations to raise awareness.

CLIENT - "SAFE2SAY SOMETHING" PROGRAM

Section Instructions

NEW & RETURNING STUDENTS: Develop a Marketing Strategy

For this project, you will form groups to come up with an idea for a way to promote the Safe2Say Program. Students will engage in a brainstorming session to develop thumbnails and rough sketches for their campaigns.

​

Lecture - Creating a Marketing Campaign (20 - 30). The lecture will provide the student with a basic understanding of developing a marketing strategy for an advertising campaign.

​

  1. Develop a focus for your campaign. It can be positive to show how you can help others or negative to show what would happen if you chose not to do anything.​ 

  2.  You can use the supplied storyboard sheets to put down your ideas.

NEW STUDENTS ONLY - Coordinate and Begin Presentation Designs

Students will download templates provided by the instructor to create their social media ads. Download the assigned social media template sizes to begin your design layouts. This will help you plan the layout for your photos also. 

​

*** You will need to include photos that you took for the ad. They can be of yourself, friends, or family members. You may also use pictures downloaded from Google images ***

​

Lecture - Creating an effective advertising plan (20 - 30). The lecture will provide the student with a basic understanding of website functionality to make a website easy to search and navigate.

RETURNING STUDENTS ONLY - (IN-CLASS) - Create Your Video PSA (Public Service Announcement) 

​

1.Teams will create a Video PSA for their project. They will work together and brainstorm their ideas

​

2. Video PSA (2-3 minutes) - In-Class/Returning students will create a PSA using one of the topics located within the Safe2say app. You need to go to the Apple App Store or Android market to download the app. Click on the "What to Report" tab for a list of topics You may use any software you want to edit the video.

​

3.Your video must include 2 statistics related to the topic you chose in the app. For example, "78% of schools report bullying each year"

​

RETURNING STUDENTS ONLY - (VIRTUAL) -. 60 Second Radio PSA

1. Returning students will create a Radio PSA. You may also use whatever audio editing software you want to do this project.

​

2. You will create your PSA using one of the topics located within the Safe2say app. You need to go to the Apple App Store or Android market to download the app. Click on the "What to Report" tab for a list of topics You may use any software you want to edit the Radio PSA.

​

3.Your PSA must include 2 statistics related to the topic you chose in the app. For example, "78% of schools report bullying each year"

​

4. When complete, save your radio PSA as an MP3 and upload it to Schoology

​

Lecture - preparing for location and studio shoots (20 - 30). The lecture will provide the student with a basic understanding of website functionality to make a website easy to search and navigate.

FIRST YEAR STUDENTS ONLY - Create Posts for Social Media Ads and Create Poster

Now that you have your idea and took your photos, it is time to assemble your final advertisements.

 

Use the template below entitled: "FINAL PRESENTATION - SOCIAL MEDIA TEMPLATE" provided by the instructor and develop your social media ads. Upload this template to Schoology. There are tutorials on our Youtube page to work with the template and upload to Schoology

 

When this is complete, you will also create a print poster to hang in public places to promote your campaign.

​

Specifications for your poster (using Google Drawing) :

  1. Document size is "Tabloid", which is 11" x 17"

  2. Resolution is 150 DPI

  3. You must use images(s) that YOU have taken

  4. The poster must have:

  • A slogan/tagline related to Safe2Say

  • A link to the website

  • The phone number

  • The App 

  1. Upload your poster to Schoology for grading. Also, upload a copy to your website

​

Lecture - creating engaging Social Media advertising posts. (20-30). 

Students will learn the differences when posting to different social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. There are limits to character posts, image sizes, and other specifications. This lecture covers the different platform requirements.
